Glass fusing workshop

June 11th 2017, 10:00am – 2:30pm

Fun and educational glass fusing workshop.

In this glass fusing workshop we will create 2 fused glass salad plates by using a mosaic technique. The finished projects will be 2 salad plates 9″ x 9″.
A nice variety of colours will be available to choose from. Every student gets to create two matching or different plates based on their desire.

First step is to learn how to cut glass. Next – just enjoy to play with colour and shape.

Class limit is 6 students.

The projects will be fired twice after the class. First at a high temperature called “full fuse”. In a second fusing, at a lower temperature, it will be slumped over a mold. This will give the glass pieces the final shape. The finished artwork will be ready for pick up around 10 – 14 days after the class.

Material, use of tools and four glass firings are included. $130/per student. (pre-registration please)

Melting glass – window hanging

Fused glass - window hanging

Fused glass – window hanging

Tuesday June 27th,

10:00 am – 1:00 pm.

Another way to learn about melting glass – as well called glass fusing.

With the use of stringers, frit and maybe some paint we will create a 8″ x 10″ window hanging on clear glass. We will talk about different design elements and learn to manipulate stringers with the help of a torch or candle. Frit and powder can create multiple effects. There will be a variety of glass colours to choose from to learn how to cut glass.

This class leaves a lot of space for your own imagination. Please feel free to bring any images for reference. We will talk about the effect of temperature and time during the firing process.

To be able to hang the glass panel once it is fired we will add some high temperature wire loops.

At the end of this class the student’s work will be ready to go into the kiln. The fired project will be ready for pick up around 7-14 days after the workshop.

Student limit per class: 6

Material, use of tools and one glass furing is included. $75/per student. (pre-registration please)

Introduction to dichroic glass and millefiori.

(December 15th 2016, 10:00am – 2:30pm
and December 22nd 2016, 10:00 – 11:30)

In this class we will create one small plate using several layers of glass. There will be a nice variety of colours to choose from to design a unique plate.

On the first day of this class – after placing our plates in the kiln – we will create 10 small pieces using millefiori and dichroic glass in a combination of iridescent and regular fusing glass. We will explore different styles to use the material to archive a variety of effects.

On the second day of this class, after all firings are done, the glass plate and small pieces will be ready for pick up. We will get together and each student chooses their favourite 5 pieces. These will be turned into jewellery. The other 5 will be turned into fridge magnets. On this second day we will add a bail to the jewellery pieces and magnets to the other ones.
